Mother Blessingway Shower

The Blessingway ceremony is a mother blessing ceremony inspired by a Navajo tradition of the same name. It is crafted:

  • to bless the way of the child
  • mark the rite of passage from maiden woman to mother
  • as an spiritual alternative/addition to a baby shower.

The Blessingway ceremony is one of my all time favorite ceremonies. Like all Heartsfull ceremonies, it is heart-crafted to reflect you and your beliefs as well as to bring in the support you need. The multi-generational gatherings are some of the sweetest as they offer wisdom, support and love from both peers and elders.

In our society, we often put on a good face, keeping many things hidden from each other. Some of those things are words of encouragement. You probably do not know all of the love and admiration your family, friends and community have for you. You probably don’t know about the insecurities, fears and sorrows of your community around mothering. This ceremony offers you and your community a safe place to voice the good and the bad, to speak, listen and be heard. The ceremonial circle we create together offers a safe place to mourn and release fears, to love, encourage and build each other up. The focus is on blessing and preparing the birthing mama, but it is rare that every woman present is not touched deeply in some way.
